Born in Caldwell, Texas, Bobby Clanton started singing in high school and formed a band called The Galaxies. After graduation, he formed The Citations, who became one of the top Rock & Roll bands in central Texas. They performed at clubs, halls, schools, on radio and also television.

In 1962, The Citations recorded the song "Sincerely," which went to number one on WLS Chicago. Other hit songs for Clanton include 1964's "Angel" and 1966's "Pledging My Love" with a total of sixteen records in all.
